Carolina Special marks our second collaboration with our buddies at the famed Asheville Brewing Company, the first we’ve brewed here in Charleston. We went for a big-bodied, Red Rye IPA here, with a fairly fancy hop profile. Huell Melon is a relatively new Cascade spin-off from Germany, and Galaxy from Australia adds some deep citrus character.

For all you history buffs, we named this after one of the last passenger trains that connected Charleston and Asheville in the mid-20th century. It ended service in the 60’s, with the Asheville Special carrying on the legacy for part of the route up until the mid-1970’s. I think fellow beer lovers would agree that a new Charleston-to-Asheville train route would be much appreciated…
